Act Theatre. 10 years

Out of rebellion and the nobility of friendship, a new institution was born: Teatrul Act. From scratch. From nothing. From a crazy idea. From dreams.

They (Marcel Iures and Alexandru Dabija) were visionaries. They had the incredible strength to believe in their obsession. In the idea that a place, a theatre, a soul could be created. Others, motivated by their unconventional idea and without a moment's hesitation, were quick to jump aboard: architects, building engineers, important artists from Romania and around the world, big names, friends, economists, people of culture, and the two "technicians", the nucleus of a miniscule team.

For ten years this place has hosted theatre and music, here careers were launched, talents recognised, friendships made and unmade, something always built, electricity, water and gas bills and salaries always paid. Ten years. Incredible. And Iures is still not tired. Teatrul Act is an intimate space. A chamber theatre. Cruel and warm in equal measure. The intimacy of the actor's performance no longer exists. The directors and actors who worked here created a new kind acting school as they went along. And much besides. Unique. For this kind of relationship. Sharp, intense, provocative, gentle and ruthless at one and the same time.

This album is also a beginning. An attempt to organise the essential moments which have composed the face of Teatrul Act thus far. A state of affairs which characterises the moment of celebration and responsible transition to another era. With other forms of devotion and crazy ideas. (Marina Constantinescu)
