Cule. Boyar Fortified Houses

The album was released on the 4th of October 2006 at Carturesti bookstore - in the opening, Domnisoara Pogany quartet gave a concert.

...there is something about these fortified houses, in these more than defense towers; there is something mysterious and unusual that fascinates and attracts in the same time. As far as I know there are few people who manage not to fall into this feeling, after they come across with one of the few fortified houses still standing and also accessible from a tourist point of view.

This passion that is more obvious in Luiza and Cibinus' case, gave birth to an album, the first in a collection in which we will try to save, through photography and texts, as much as we can of our patrimony, that is so little known or even forgotten. If we "save", it would be too much for an album and an album is too little that we can do for the actual state of the fortified houses. As the album ends with a chapter about the fortified houses that don't exist anymore, I cannot rest my case without confessing my worry about the fact that in a few years, the pictures in this album will be the only evidence of these Romanian architecture jewelry.
(Bruno Andresoiu, igloo media editor)

...There is no civilization without culture and no culture without civilization, as there is no personality as a definitive attribute for a civilization, without identity and identity without patrimony. It means that neglecting our patrimony leads to the loss of our identity.

...of all the fortified houses which have existed and which have represented a patrimony assembly similar to the one that represented the wooden churches from Maramures or the one that represented the painted churches from Bucovina, there are just 18 left. Some of them had the luck of becoming museums or memorial houses. It is the case of Greceanu and Duca fortified houses from Maldaresti, and others from Curtisoara, Glogova and Cartiu. The other ones didn't survive. The album "Boyar Fortified Houses in Romania" shows in pictures the 18 left and maintained monuments of this type and tells their stories. At the end, there are mentioned the fortified houses that have been recently lost.
