Kosovo and Metohija in mourning

This travelling exhibition, brought to the Romanian public by Predania and The graphic studio, contains photographs from the terrible summer of 1999, when the Yugoslav Army retreated from Kosovo and Metohija, and NATO and Albanian paramilitary groups took control of the region. As a photographer, Milinko Stefanovich witnessed the reprisals inflicted on the defenceless non-Albanian inhabitants. In April 2009, the exhibition space of the Chamber of Architects will host a few snapshots from the photo-diary kept by Stefanovich during this time. "I decided for the first time to break my own professional rules: that of not publishing photographs relating to military and medical pathology. After seeing and photographing many victims among the Serbs, I realised that no one, apart from us and perhaps not even all of us, was interested. My opinion has changed. Who, other than us, will speak about them?!"

Milinko Stefanovich (born on 12th March, 1947, in Kostainik, near Krupani, in Serbia) is an artist photographer and photo journalist, editor, publisher and teacher. He is a member of the Union of Fine Artist of Serbia and holds the title of Master of Photography in the Yugoslavian Union of Photographers.
